I recently officiated at a ‘closer’ to home’ destination wedding. Many times with destination weddings, we think of going out of the country which not only eliminates many family members and friends who could not afford to attend, but also means ‘red’ tape with the legal requirements of being married out of province. The wedding I officiated at was 300 miles from the Bride and Grooms hometown. They reside in the GTA and yes as you would imagine the price of a wedding is significantly higher than if you were outside the city, which is what they did. They booked their entire wedding at the “Westover Inn” in St. Mary’s. The in has accommodations for a small wedding party and their family and provides a venue, meal and assists with music, photographer and officiant. I am sure there are many other quaint inns or resorts out-of-town that can and do provide wonderful wedding facilities… at a smaller cost but also with less things to organize. Why not utilize what is nearby and get that same ‘destination’ feeling close to home!
